Mega budget plan was enacted by Trump

Mega budget plan was enacted by Trump

US President Donald Trump signed his landmark $3.4 trillion budget bill into law on Friday at a White House ceremony, turning the controversial initiative into law, which extends tax breaks and cuts spending on several social programs.

“Promises made, promises kept,” Trump said before signing the bill in an outdoor ceremony on Independence Day. The US president said the implementation of the bill, which narrowly passed in the House of Representatives, was his “greatest victory to date.” US Air Force planes flew over the White House before the signing.

The bill includes a series of priorities that Trump had defined during his campaign, such as increasing funding for border control, reducing support for renewable energy and exempting workers from taxes on tips, as well as cutting health insurance plans such as Medicaid and food assistance programs for the most disadvantaged.

The bill - dubbed the One Big Beautiful Bill - also provides for an extension of the tax cuts that came from Trump's first term and a cut in public spending, but critics say it is not enough (even with the money it intends to raise from tariffs) to balance the public accounts and reduce the massive US debt.

Still, Trump expressed his satisfaction with the legislative victory. “I’ve never seen so many people so happy in our country because of this, because so many groups of people are being taken care of: military, civilians of all kinds, jobs of all kinds,” Trump said at the ceremony, thanking Republican leaders in both houses for getting the bill passed. Trump himself reached out to several members of Congress and called some to the White House to push for the legislation to be passed and get it signed into law before the July 4 deadline.
