Partygoers value and promote local cultural identity

Three parades (one for children and two for adults), a ball and a matinee are the main attractions of the Miranda do Corvo Carnival, whose programme was made public this morning, and which aims to “value and promote local cultural identity”. The event, organised by the Parish of Miranda do Corvo, with the support of the Municipal Council, starts on Friday (10:00 am) with a parade of over 1,300 children and young people from the Miranda do Corvo School Group and the ADFP Foundation Children’s Centre. Should the weather conditions not allow it, the organisation has already planned an alternative and the parade, according to Marilene Rodrigues, “will take place in the municipal market”.
On Saturday (1 March), the Miranda do Corvo Firefighters' Humanitarian Association will hold a carnival ball at 10:30 pm, with entertainment provided by the band Anarkia. This will be followed by a performance by DJ Telo. On Sunday (2 March), the first of two adult parades will take place (3 pm) - the other will take place on Tuesday (4 March, 3 pm) - and one of the biggest new features of these carnival festivities will be the matinee, starting at 6 pm, hosted by DJ Telo, in a moment that the organizers hope will be a "social event for all participants", of which "several hundred are expected".
The Carnival festivities in Mirando do Corvo are “a tradition” that politicians intend to “maintain” and “one of the most memorable moments” of the Parish Council, stresses the mayor João Paulo Fernandes. Marilene Rodrigues, vice-mayor of the Council, stresses that the objectives of this event are to “value and promote local cultural identity, boost the local economy and encourage the participation of groups”.
The Miranda Carnival is an investment of «12,500 euros», with the council and parish council providing funding for the eight participating groups.
