Racing fans are shot in a robbery in Rio, and Botafogo speaks out

Two Racing fans were shot during a robbery on Wednesday (25) in Barra da Tijuca, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. In a statement, Botafogo regretted the incident and made itself available to the board of the Argentine club, its opponent in the final of the Recopa Sudamericana.
According to reports, they were on the sand with family members near Posto 4 when a man arrived on a motorcycle on the boardwalk, drove up to the beach and stole a necklace from one of them. The thief fired shots at the Argentines before fleeing in the same vehicle.
According to the Fire Department, the fans were identified as Gabriel Gago, 41, and Cristian Pagani, 40, and received immediate care, already in serious condition.
Botafogo's statement came after Racing condemned the shooting of two of its fans in Rio de Janeiro. In a statement, the Argentine club reported that it had contacted authorities at the Argentine consulate in the city to provide assistance to the victims. It also highlighted the "need for measures to reduce the risk of situations" like the one that occurred in Barra da Tijuca, "especially those that should be handled by local security agencies."
"Botafogo regrets the incident that occurred this afternoon in Barra da Tijuca, in which two Racing fans were robbed and shot. The Club has already contacted Racing's board of directors and is available to help in any way necessary."
Botafogo and Racing face each other this Thursday (27), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), at the Nilton Santos Stadium. In the first leg, the Argentines won 2-0.
