Rains in SP leave the capital on alert for flooding; Civil Defense issues alert

The rains falling in São Paulo this Tuesday, the 25th, have left the northern and western areas of the capital on alert for flooding, according to the City Hall's Climate Emergency Management Center. The State Civil Defense issued a severe warning informing that "heavy rain" is spreading across the two regions. "Be careful in the next few hours. Take shelter," the agency emphasizes.
According to the CGE, the most affected regions are Pirituba, Freguesia do Ó and Lapa. There is also a risk of hail, the agency reports. The Tietê and Pinheiros highways also entered a state of alert at 6:10 pm due to the storms.
"Areas of rain formed by the heat and the action of the sea breeze are beginning to affect the city," says the CGE. "Heavy and isolated rain is falling between the north and west zones, mainly in the sub-prefectures of Pirituba/Jaraguá, Freguesia do Ó and Lapa. There is potential for hail and flooding," informed the City Hall.
The trend for the next few days is similar: mornings with high temperatures and heavy rain showers in the afternoon. The forecast for Wednesday, the 26th, is a maximum of 32°C and rainfall between mid-afternoon and early evening, the result of a combination of heat and sea breeze.
According to the CGE, weather systems do not indicate the arrival of a cold front that could change this scenario in the coming days.
"Therefore, in the face of high temperatures and low humidity levels, it is recommended to drink plenty of water, stay hydrated, and avoid exercising outdoors during the hottest hours of the day, especially between 11 am and 4 pm," the center recommends. "Whenever possible, use humidifiers indoors, such as wet towels and containers with water."
