The governments of the United States and China are scheduled to meet this Saturday (10), in Geneva, Switzerland, for the first round of negotiations on the reciprocal tariff war between the two countries, initiated by American President Donald Trump .
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and chief US trade negotiator Jamieson Greer will meet China's economic czar He Lifeng in Switzerland for talks that could be the first step toward resolving their trade disputes.
On his Truth Social account, Trump said the decision to reduce the percentage of tariffs charged by the US on Chinese products "is Scott B's," referring to Bessent.
The US president also wrote that China "should open its markets to the US." "It would be great for them!!! Closed markets don't work anymore!!!"

China's response to Trump's tariffs boosts Chinese nationalism
China was one of the countries subject to tariffs — and with one of the highest rates, at 34%. This rate was added to the 20% that was already charged in tariffs on Chinese products previously.
