US imposes sanctions on Alexandre Moares' wife

The United States imposed the Magnitsky Act on the wife of Brazilian judge Alexandre de Moraes and the company in which Viviane Barci and her children are partners on Monday.
The announcement was made on the official website of the US Treasury Department, further intensifying the diplomatic conflict between the two countries due to the conviction of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, a political ally of US President Donald Trump.
In July, before the start of the trial that would sentence Jair Bolsonaro to prison on September 11 for attempted coup d'état, the US government imposed the Magnitsky Act on the Brazilian judge, reporting on the case at the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court.
This law, which authorizes the US government to sanction foreign citizens involved in acts of corruption or human rights violations, was applied by the US with the justification that Alexandre de Moraes carried out “arbitrary arrests” and “restrictions on freedom of expression.”
