Tricolor das Laranjeiras said goodbye to the continental competition because in the first leg of the quarter-finals, played last Tuesday (16) at La Fortaleza stadium, in Buenos Aires, they were defeated by a score of 1-0.
Coach Renato Gaúcho's team played a game with two very distinct halves on Tuesday. The opening period was marked by Fluminense's dominance, piling up chances against a Lanús side that struggled to create chances. In this scenario, the team from Laranjeiras managed to open the scoring in the 19th minute with a stunning goal from Canobbio. After Serna lifted the ball into the box, Lucho Acosta headed it in, and the Uruguayan volleyed it in to score.
Cheers, Canobbio! You scored a great goal to put @FluminenseFC 1-0 up against @ClubLanus !

Needing one more goal to secure qualification for the semifinals of the Copa Sudamericana in regulation time, the Tricolor continued to push forward. But as time wore on, coach Renato Gaúcho's team tired and began to create space for the Argentine team to counterattack. And that's how Lanús equalized in the 21st minute, when Aquino exchanged passes with Marcelino Moreno before slotting past goalkeeper Fábio.
Faced with a draw that could have led to elimination, coach Renato Gaúcho began making changes. However, the changes completely disorganized Fluminense, which was unable to achieve much from then on and was eliminated from the South American.
