After request for review, Zambelli's trial for armed persecution will resume

After Minister Kassio Nunes Marques suspended, in March of this year, the analysis of the action against federal deputy Carla Zambelli for pursuing a Lula (PT) voter with a gun in 2022, the Supreme Federal Court scheduled the return of the trial for the 15th.
The case will continue to be analyzed in the Court's virtual plenary session and is expected to conclude on August 22. Before the trial was suspended, the Supreme Court had already formed a majority in favor of conviction with the votes of Justices Gilmar Mendes (rapporteur), Alexandre de Moraes, Cármen Lúcia, Flávio Dino, Cristiano Zanin , and Dias Toffoli .
If the trend toward conviction continues and no justice changes their vote, Zambelli is expected to be sentenced to 5 years and 3 months in semi-open prison. The justices who voted for conviction also expressed support for the loss of office due to the criminal conviction. Five justices still need to vote.
The congresswoman, who is imprisoned in Italy, has already been sentenced by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to 10 years in prison for the incident in which she commanded the hacking of the National Council of Justice's systems. She was also convicted of the hacker Walter Delgatti .
Remember the caseThe federal deputy is on trial in the Supreme Federal Court for armed pursuit in São Paulo. The incident occurred on the eve of the 2022 runoff election, when she pulled out a gun and chased an opponent through the streets of an upscale neighborhood in the city. On that occasion, she also allegedly forced the man to remain in a bar at gunpoint.
Zambelli claimed to have acted in self-defense and pursued the man after hearing gunshots. She maintains that he was armed.
However, the rapporteur for the case said the congresswoman's version of events didn't hold up after investigation. He found her guilty of illegal possession of a firearm and unlawful coercion.
