The Attorney General's Office said on Wednesday 30 that it had received "with astonishment" the news that Donald Trump's government had decided to apply the Magnitsky Act against Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes .
"It expresses solidarity with the minister, the Supreme Federal Court, and the Brazilian judiciary. It renews its recognition of the technical accuracy of the deliberations of the Supreme Federal Court and its members," reads the official statement from the Attorney General's Office.
The complaint against Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the others implicated in the process regarding the attempted coup d'état in 2022 came from the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet.
One of the Trump administration's allegations when announcing the sanction against Moraes is an alleged " illegal witch hunt " against Bolsonaro in the coup action.
The United States imposed on the minister the effects of a law authorizing measures against foreigners responsible for serious human rights violations or corruption. The sanction freezes any assets and funds owned by Moraes in the United States and prohibits his transactions with American citizens, companies, or financial institutions.

After difficult years , we've returned to a Brazil that feels at least a little bit normal. This new normal, however, remains fraught with uncertainty . The Bolsonaro threat persists, and the appetites of the market and Congress continue to pressure the government. Abroad, the global rise of the far right and the brutality in Gaza and Ukraine risk imploding the fragile foundations of global governance.
