Man arrested on suspicion of defrauding elderly people in Alenquer

A man was arrested in the municipality of Alenquer on suspicion of defrauding elderly people by pretending to be a company employee to convince them to buy counterfeit products, the GNR announced this Saturday.
The 52-year-old suspect was arrested following a complaint related to a fraud crime that occurred in that municipality, following investigations carried out by military personnel from the Alenquer Criminal Investigation Unit that allowed him to be identified and intercepted.
“During the course of the operation, it was found that the individual approached particularly vulnerable victims, due to their age, posing as a company employee, enticing them to purchase various counterfeit goods and leading them to believe that they were genuine brand products, to which he attributed a commercial value significantly higher than the real one,” said the GNR.
Following the operation, a search of a vehicle was carried out, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of various materials, such as 22 boxes of perfume, 10 watches, 10 items of clothing and 110 euros in cash.
The detainee was charged and the facts were reported to the Alenquer Judicial Court.
