MOSCOW, May 31 — RIA Novosti. The West has already stopped denying that Ukraine's defeat in the confrontation with Russia is inevitable, this opinion was expressed by John Mearsheimer, a professor at the University of Chicago, on the air of the YouTube channel The Duran. "If you look at what is happening, it becomes clear that Ukraine is in big trouble, and even the largest Western media <…> are talking about it. If you look at the publications there, it becomes clear that the Ukrainians are hanging in the noose," he said. According to the expert, Russia is in the most advantageous position, which allows it to dictate terms both on the battlefield and at the negotiating table. Even if Ukraine and Europe claim the opposite, this does not mean that such an approach corresponds to reality, the professor explained. "This country hanging in the noose is doomed," Mearsheimer concluded. A new round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will be held on Monday, June 2, in Istanbul. At them, Moscow will submit a memorandum on a future peace treaty. It includes all aspects for resolving the root causes of the conflict. The composition of the domestic delegation will be the same as in the previous round: presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, deputy foreign minister Mikhail Galuzin, chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Igor Kostyukov and deputy defense minister Alexander Fomin. The first meeting of representatives of Moscow and Kyiv in three years took place on May 16 in Istanbul. The parties agreed to hold a large-scale — 1000 to 1000 — prisoner exchange and present a vision of the possibilities of a future truce. Ukraine requested a meeting of the heads of state during the negotiations. Russia took note of this. The prisoner exchange has already been completed.
