Didn't bounce back

Two Kostanay deputies were sent to prison.
Chairman of the B. Mailin District Maslikhat Denis MARTIN and his colleague, deputy Erbol BEKKALIYEV, were found guilty of giving a bribe to an inspector of the regional internal audit department (see “Without further ado”, “Vremya” dated 11.2.2025 ). The amount of the bribe was 2 million tenge.
Bekkaliyev was an intermediary, and Martin was a person with a vested interest in ensuring that the audit of Altyn Eltai LLC did not cause damage to this enterprise. The fact is that Martin came to the maslikhat from business, being the founder of the above-mentioned company. After the elections, he re-registered the enterprise to his common-law wife, but, of course, continued to delve into the affairs of the business that actually belonged to him.
Martin's company was engaged in construction, repair and improvement work for budget facilities. The audit revealed non-fulfillment of contractual obligations in the amount of almost 40 million tenge.
It was then that the chairman of the district maslikhat came up with the idea of agreeing with the inspector to issue an order to withdraw the claims. The inspector contacted the anti-corruption department. Bekkaliyev, who had given her the money, was detained, and Martin was detained after him.
The defendants asked to be sentenced to a fine equal to 30 times the amount of the bribe. However, the court decided that an effective measure for them would be to stay in the zones: Martin was sent to a medium security colony for 2 years 7 months 15 days, Bekkaliyev - to a minimum security colony for 1.5 years.
