Romanian presidential candidate Georgescu threatened with prison

The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has brought six charges against Romanian presidential candidate Calin Georgescu, and the politician faces prison. This was reported by the Mediafax agency.

In particular, Georgescu is accused of promoting fascism, spreading false information, creating and supporting an anti-Semitic organization, creating a fascist organization, providing false information about the financing of an election campaign, and calling against the constitutional order. It is noted that prosecutors have "compromising" conversations and recordings at their disposal.

Georgescu won the first round of Romania's presidential election on November 24, 2024. He advocated an alliance with Russia and criticized US arms sales to Ukraine .

On December 6 of that year, the Constitutional Court of Romania annulled the results of the first round and demanded that the procedure be re-run, including the election campaign.
