MOSCOW, May 12 - RIA Novosti. Russian courts have convicted more than 500 people under extremism articles in a year, almost 300 of them were sentenced to imprisonment, according to statistics from the Judicial Department of the Supreme Court, which RIA Novosti has reviewed. 42 people were convicted directly under Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity), 18 of them were sent to prison colonies. For repeated demonstration of Nazi, extremist symbols or symbols of banned organizations, 127 people were sentenced, 66 were sentenced to imprisonment. In total, over 500 people were convicted under articles on extremism, participation in or organization of an extremist community, recruitment of people and financing of extremist activity last year, 285 received real terms. The total amount of fines under this article exceeded 12 million rubles.
