Telegram Call Failure: Do They Want to Ban Calls via Messengers in Russia?

According to the monitoring service Downdetector.su , users are complaining about Telegram. Over the last hour, 320 complaints have been detected, and over 2,500 in the last 24 hours.

Users are interested in what's wrong with Telegram, and most often they complain about problems with calls.

It is worth noting that other monitoring services note only a slight increase in the flow of complaints or their absence. Thus, according to Sboy.rf , 50 complaints were registered on August 10.

According to the Downdetector.su service, the largest number of complaints comes from Khakassia, Irkutsk and Ulyanovsk regions. According to Sboy.rf, about a third of all complaints come from Krasnodar Krai, Novosibirsk and Nizhny Novgorod regions. Brand Analytics reports two complaints from Moscow and St. Petersburg, and one from other localities.

Users are left wondering whether the current issues are a technical glitch or the first sign of upcoming restrictions.

It is noteworthy that today the media reported that the four largest telecom operators allegedly proposed to ban calls via Telegram and WhatsApp* back in late May. This was explained by the rise in price of base stations needed to maintain the existing infrastructure and the sharp increase in mobile Internet traffic. In addition, the planned introduction of financial compensation for damages for missed traffic from cyber fraudsters is also a concern.
