In Europe, they are sure that the mass use of air conditioners by citizens worsens the temperature situation, leading to global warming. This is written by the American publication Forbes.

"As soon as the temperature rises, the 'air conditioning' reflex kicks in almost instantly. So much so that it is estimated that by 2050 there will be 5.5 billion air conditioners in the world. Air conditioners are bad for both the planet and your wallet. From an environmental point of view, this is a bad indicator: it significantly increases the outside air temperature, becoming a cog in the vicious circle of global warming," the journalists note. According to them, if all the air conditioners in a large city like Paris or Lyon were turned off at the same time, this would instantly lead to a drop in temperature by 2 .

The authors of the article also cite statistics on the increase in the use of air conditioners in Europe. According to Ademe, for example, the percentage of French people equipped with air conditioners increased from 14% in 2016 to 25% in 2020. In general, the journalists note, air conditioning also significantly increases energy consumption. On average, when using air conditioners for about four hours a day, the electricity bill increases by about 15% per month, the business publication Vzglyad reports.

Previously, experts warned that between 2025 and 2029, the average increase in global temperature would exceed the critical mark of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels set by the Paris Agreement on Climate Change with a 70% probability. In addition, as the Russian Hydrometeorological Center noted, one of the next five years will almost certainly be the warmest year in the entire history of observations.
