We can't give up

Karina MINGALEEVA, a girl who baked cookies and cakes to raise money for her treatment, needs help again.

We met Karina five years ago, she was 14 then and just beginning to learn the basics of cooking. She baked American cookies with colorful candies to somehow help her parents raise money for treatment. Karina has been fighting the disease since she was five and she doesn't want to remember how many times she was on the brink.

The last couple of years have been a respite. Karina entered the journalism department, baked cakes to order instead of cookies, and dreamed of becoming a journalist. But the disease, unfortunately, returned: the girl had a relapse of lymphoma - a malignant disease of the lymphatic system. Bone marrow almost does not produce healthy cells, a transplant of donor cells is needed.

- Karina has a donor - her younger brother Radmir. The problem is that bone marrow transplants from minors are prohibited in Kazakhstan, - Karina's mother Zarina shares her misfortune. - There is no suitable adult donor in Kazakhstan. There is only one way out - to go to a clinic in Israel, where Karina was helped before, and have a bone marrow transplant from her brother here. Karina's condition is getting worse, there was a risk that we would not be able to fly at all, so we decided not to delay.

On Tuesday, Karina, her mother and brother arrived in Israel. Fortunately, there is someone to stay with, and they won’t have to spend money on accommodation and food. The bone marrow transplant procedure needs to be done as soon as possible. But, as always, it all comes down to finances.

The preliminary cost of treatment is about $120,000. At the clinic's request, the patient must make a deposit of $100,000 and then he can be admitted to the hospital. The family, exhausted by the long-term struggle for Karina's life, does not have that kind of money.

- We will ask the clinic to admit Karina to the hospital and start the procedure as soon as possible, and we will continue to look for the necessary amount, - continues Zarina. - Now we are turning to everyone: relatives, friends, acquaintances and through you - to caring Kazakhstanis: we cannot cope without you! So far we have managed to collect about 7 million tenge, we need another 43 million tenge. The amount seems unaffordable, but we cannot give up.
