60 percent of Turkey's electricity needs come from renewable energy

According to the data of Turkish Electricity Transmission Inc. (TEİAŞ), Turkey's total installed electricity capacity increased to 116,605 megawatts during this period.
Focusing on the use of domestic resources to combat climate change and reduce the current account deficit, clean energy resources, which hold an important place in Turkey's electricity generation portfolio, constituted approximately 70 thousand megawatts of this capacity.
The number of renewable energy power plants in 7 regions of Turkey was calculated as 33 thousand 671.
As part of the policies to meet the country's ever-increasing energy needs due to its increasing population, efforts to further expand its industry, and to reduce the current account deficit stemming from imports of fossil fuels such as oil and natural gas, investments, especially in wind and solar energy, have been accelerated.
As of February 23, Turkey's renewable energy installed capacity reached approximately 60 percent of its total electricity installed capacity.
The number of solar power plants has exceeded 32 thousandWhile the installed solar energy capacity was determined as 20 thousand 416 megawatts in this period, 18 thousand 409 megawatts of this amount were unlicensed power plants and 2 thousand 8 megawatts were licensed power plants.
During this period, the share of solar energy in total installed power reached 17.5 percent, and its share in renewable energy installed power reached approximately 30 percent.
The number of solar energy power plants generating electricity during this period was calculated as 32,083.
In this period, the installed power in wind energy reached 13,046 megawatts and the number of power plants reached 378. Wind energy constituted approximately 11 percent of the total installed power. The share of this source in renewable energy was recorded as 18.7 percent. While the number of licensed power plants in wind energy capacity was 287, the number of unlicensed power plants reached 89.
The largest capacity in renewable energy is in hydroelectric power plantsThis capacity, which consists of hydroelectric power plants with rivers and dams, reached 32,203 megawatts as of February 23. Hydroelectric energy constituted 27 percent of the total installed power and 46 percent of the total renewable energy installed power.
The number of power plants in this source was recorded as 617 for river power plants and 147 for dam power plants.
Other sources of total renewable energy were geothermal and biomass resources. Geothermal energy capacity was calculated as 1,734 megawatts and biomass capacity as 2,123 megawatts during this period. The number of power plants was recorded as 66 for geothermal and 380 for biomass, respectively.
