Accommodation and chairlift services were stopped at a ski resort after the Kartalkaya disaster

A fire broke out at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Kartalkaya Ski Resort on January 21, killing 78 people. Within the scope of measures taken nationwide following the fire, accommodation and chairlift services were stopped following inspections at the Bingöl Hesarek Ski Resort, located 34 kilometers from the city center.

'THIS DECISION IS NOT SPECIFIC TO BINGÖL'
Governor Ahmet Hamdi Usta said, "Our Hesarek Ski Resort is an important winter sports center whose tender was made by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2011 and put into service in 2014. This facility, which has been providing successful service for years, is an investment that has made Bingöl a brand. However, following the saddening incident in Kartalkaya, the security measures were reconsidered in all ski resorts. In this context, we temporarily closed our 35 room and 70 bed capacity accommodation facility belonging to the Ministry of Youth and Sports in order to increase security measures and correct the deficiencies. In line with the instruction sent by the Ministry of Industry and Technology to all ski resorts following the incident in Kartalkaya, the cable transportation systems at Hesarek Ski Resort were also inspected. In accordance with Articles 13 and 71 of the Market Surveillance and Inspection Regulation, we reconsidered the cable lines inspected by independent organizations. In line with the letter we received on February 6, we decided to temporarily suspend the chair lift services as of February 10. This decision is not specific to Bingöl alone; "Similar measures were taken in the ski resorts in Çankırı Ilgaz, Kastamonu, Kayseri and Sivas," he said.

'WE ARE TAKING ALL KINDS OF PRECAUTIONS'
Governor Usta stated that all deficiencies will be resolved by the next season and citizens will receive a safer service, and said, "Single-person chairlift services, social facilities and other facilities are at the service of our visitors. Our citizens can benefit from all facilities except accommodation and chairlift services. Our Hesarek Ski Center is open for daily use. We are taking all kinds of precautions, especially fire safety. Our aim is to provide our citizens with a safe and quality service."
