Drought delays harvest: Yields double in irrigated lands

Wheat harvest has begun in Osmaniye, which has the fertile lands of Çukurova. As in the rest of the city, the harvest , which continues in Düziçi district, has experienced a loss of yield.

DROUGHT AND RAINS DELAYED HARVEST

Farmers stated that due to the drought this year and the recent rainfall, the harvest started late and the yield per acre dropped by almost 50 percent.

PROBLEM OF COMPATIBILITY IN PRICES

Farmer Bilal Mulayim stated that there was a discrepancy between the prices determined by the state and the purchasing prices of retail tradesmen: "We have opened the season of 2025, no matter how smooth our mowing mechanism is, we started 15-20 days later than in previous years. For some reason, there was drought in the first and second months, we had to irrigate, our yields are low. In the places we irrigate, we can get up to 500 kilos per acre, in the places that are not irrigated, the yield per acre decreases by around 200 kilos. The price announced by our state is 13-13.5 liras in the offices, depending on the type of wheat. Retail tradesmen make purchases of around 11-12 liras, our state is not complying, opportunism is expected from our farmers. We are extracting this opportunity from the field with difficulty, but our tradesmen friends are purchasing it from the farmers in person. We want our office price to be complied with."

COMBINE HARVESTER DRIVER DRAWS ATTENTION TO DECREASE IN EFFICIENCY

Combine harvester operator Hüseyin Adak also stated that the yield decreased due to the effects of drought and rainfall, and said, "This year, the yield is low due to the drought and the seasonal conditions, and the yield is low in irrigated lands, which are normally barren. The yield is 250-300 kilos on average in non-irrigated lands and 500 kilos on average in irrigated lands."
