Ertuğrul Özkök: Details I saw while watching the ceremony on the mountain in Nagehan's mountain uniform

Ertuğrul Özkök: Details I saw while watching the ceremony on the mountain in Nagehan's mountain uniform

If the famous New York Times writer Thomas Friedman had been a Turkish journalist watching the ceremony in Suleymaniye yesterday, I wonder what he would have started his article with.

Just as I was thinking about this, I saw the photo shared by Nagehan Alçı on Instagram.

What would I do if I came across such a photo?

Of course, I look and read with the eyes of a “fashion sociologist”.

So, this would be a Thomas Friedmann-style opening to the article about the journalists who watched yesterday's ceremony.

I will return to Nagehan's special mountain creation.

But first, as a citizen, I must tell you my true feelings about yesterday's ceremony.

People I thanked while watching the ceremony yesterday

The first thing I thought as I watched the footage of the ceremony in Sulaymaniyah yesterday was this:

(*) Devlet Bahçeli has done a great service to Turkey.

As a citizen, I am grateful to him.

His taking this step was of historical importance in reaching this point.

Of course, I am also grateful to President Erdoğan , who did not obstruct the path he opened and even did everything in his power to help him proceed.

They performed a historic duty for all of Türkiye.

CHP's external chairman and internal presidential candidate

(*) I am also grateful to the Chairman of the Main Opposition Party , Özgür Özel , and the imprisoned Presidential candidate, Ekrem İmamoğlu .

They put aside the injustices and unfairness done to them and supported this process with all their heart and sincerity.

They ensured that this event became a national project.

Öcalan in İmralı and Demirtaş in Edirne

(*) I would also like to thank Abdullah Öcalan , who is in İmralı Prison, Selahattin Demirtaş , who is in Edirne Prison, and of course Sırrı Süreyya Önder , whom we lost recently, Ahmet Türk and the DEM party executives.

They accomplished a great job.

Hopefully, this process will be completed and Türkiye will find peace.

But from today on, I will ask the same question to both Turks and Kurds.

But let us know that this process is incomplete…

Peace was made with the Kurds, now it is time for peace with the Turks.

Almost all the mayors of the CHP, who won the hearts of the people in the March 31 elections and translated this into a great national will at the ballot box, are in prison.

People who came to power through the ballot box and were elected by the people's vote were left in the hands of appointed prosecutors and judges.

9 out of 10 Turkish citizens say, "There is no justice in this country anymore."

Freedom of thought has been suspended.

Media opposing the government has been silenced.

Mr. Bahçeli, will you complete this unfinished peace?

That's why I will keep asking.

Mr. Bahçeli;

You are the ones who made peace with the Kurds.

Only you can make peace with the unhappy Turks.

If we are to become a nation, will this regime and these practices that make half the country unhappy continue?

We expect you to extend the hand you extended to the Founding Leader to elected Turkish mayors, intellectuals, and artists.

Mr. Öcalan: Can Kurds be happy in a Türkiye where Turks are unhappy?

Dear founding leader;

Can Kurds be happy in a Türkiye where Turks are unhappy?

At least our Kurdish brothers who truly want to live together in brotherhood;

Are you going to say, “We suffered a lot in the past, now let the Turks suffer a little more”?

Your voice sounds very weak; you don't seem to be complaining much about the freedom of those in prison, the political operations against municipalities, or the March 19 regime.

Don't forget that the people inside were the ones who supported the Kurds the most at the time.

Remember that the elected mayors, intellectuals, and artists currently in prison were the people who most supported the problems of the Kurds in the past.

The people you shake hands with now, just 8 months ago, were labeling Turks who talked to you as "terrorists" and throwing them in jail.

Since you now have power over the state and want a happy Türkiye, you should now take care of those oppressed people.

Yes, that's exactly what I wanted to say.

Now I can return to my role as a “fashion sociologist.”

So, to Nagehan's mountain creation…

Oray Eğin's comment: This is "militant chic"

Nagehan Alçı had this photo taken in Erbil.

When I saw the small frame on Instagram, at first I thought I saw "the outfit of the PKK militant girls in the mountains."

At the same time, a comment came from Oray Eğin , who has now spent half of his life in Paris.

He evaluates Nagehan's ceremonial attire as follows:

“Militant chic…”

Militant chic, that is.

I've heard the words "casual chic" but this is the first time I've heard the words "militant chic".

Tom Wolfe would call this outfit “radical chic”

I didn't know, Tom Wolfe also called the White New York socialites who hosted the Black Panthers' house "radical chic."

By the way, when I looked closely at Nagehan's mountain outfit, I realized that it was a very carefully chosen outfit.

Yes, the color is a little lighter than the parkas of those in the mountains…

Yes, the general line seems to be inspired by him.

The pants Nicole Kidman wore in the Hemingway movie

But when you get down to the details, you see carefully designed details.

For example, the shirt is tied up a little bit and it leaves her belly exposed in a very measured way, almost in a thin line...

A “youth” signature…

But the most important detail is the pants.

The pleats and the fit of the trousers reminded me of the clothes worn by the famous female journalist Martha Gellhorn when she went to cover the Spanish Civil War.

Marlene Dietrich-style trousers

More precisely, for some reason, I remembered the pants worn by Nicole Kidman , who played her in the movie "Hemingway & Gellhorn", in the bar at the beginning of the movie.

Or rather, its pleated version.

These are called “marlene trousers.”

It was a style of trousers worn and made famous by the famous actress Marlene Dietrich .

First reaction to Nagehan: "She made a peace combination"

Of course, as expected, Nagehan's post drew immediate reactions.

Dr. Feyza Akınerdem made a critical post, saying, “Peace is too serious a subject to be diluted with this combination and frivolity.”

However, to add color to her post and increase her likes, she put her "female warrior" outfit on the cover of a fashion magazine published in 2014.

But let me also say this.

Nagehan Alçı is one of the journalists who has been supporting this peace most courageously and sincerely for years.

So, his post caught everyone's attention, but it's not right to criticize him for it.

Profiles of “socialite journalists” who watched the ceremony

There were three types of journalists covering the ceremony.

Those who came by government invitation and plane are called "socialite ceremonialists." They flew directly to Erbil.

There are also those who went as "DEM's guests."

In a sense, they see themselves as "locals." They arrived in Mardin by plane and drove from there.

There are also journalists who travel using their own means.

We can call them "mavericks".

Of course, we can say that the luckiest people are the "socialites" who come with state opportunities.

Habertürk Editor-in-Chief Mehmet Akif Ersoy, Halk TV Programmer İsmail Küçükkaya and journalist Alişer Delek Barzani organization even has air conditioning in the mountain

Barzani 's men provided all the organization starting from Erbil.

The organization was very good.

There were even air conditioners installed in the area where the weapons were left and burned.

Let me add a fourth category to these.

“Chameleon journalists…”

Representatives of some newspapers that called elected mayors who collaborated with DEM members in the election campaign “terrorists” even on the morning of March 19 were also at the ceremony.

Those inside are still "terrorists," but those in Imrali and the mountains are now "founding leaders..."

In my opinion, adapting to the environment and the day is a good virtue.

I hope these friends of ours will finally find the harmony to show the same affection to elected mayors, intellectuals, artists, and politicians within the country as they do to those in the mountains.

Hopefully, this process will be completed and Türkiye will fully solve this problem.
