Fenerbahçe's eyes turned to Tuncay Şanlı and Gökhan Gönül

Fenerbahçe, which finished the season in second place behind Galatasaray in the Super League, made significant changes to the technical team after the appointment of technical director Jose Mourinho. The yellow-navy club parted ways with the Portuguese coach's assistants Salvatore Foti, Stefano Rapetti, Luca Fatiga and Giovanni Cerra.
According to Sabah Newspaper, this decision to leave did not come from the club management, but directly from Jose Mourinho. The experienced coach made a negative assessment of his current assistant staff and conveyed his desire to work with a new technical team to the management. It was stated that Mourinho wanted to continue with a younger and different team.
The board responded positively to Mourinho’s request and wants at least one Turkish coach to be included in the newly formed technical team. The first name to come to the fore in this context was Tuncay Şanlı, one of Fenerbahçe’s legendary footballers. Şanlı, who served as a coach at Sakaryaspor, Ümraniyespor and most recently Çorum FK, wore the yellow-navy jersey between 2002-2007 and was then transferred to the English team Middlesbrough.
Another candidate is Gökhan Gönül. Gönül, who most recently served as the technical director of the Under-21 National Team, played for Fenerbahçe between 2007-2016 and 2020-2021. Gönül, who scored 14 goals and made 54 assists in 361 matches for the yellow-navy club, is among the club's important players.
Fenerbahçe's technical team structure is expected to be clarified soon.
