Carpenter Adem Say set up a workshop in a corner of the garden of the family-run restaurant on the plateau road, where he processes pieces of wood and turns them into decorative objects.

Say, who makes wooden items such as tables, chairs, hangers, trays, plates and motorcycles, turned the wooden car he had been dreaming of since he was 10 into reality by processing a log he found in nature.

Adem Say told AA correspondent that he started his career as a carpenter as an apprentice when he was 10 years old.

Say, who stated that he has always been interested in wood carving, said, "I make tree houses and bungalows. When I am not busy with work, I enjoy making handcrafted products from tree branches and logs in the workshop I opened next to our family business. I process the tree pieces and then display them in front of our business on the roadside for people to see."

IT COST 300 THOUSAND LIRA

Say, who explained that he brought a large log he saw in nature to his workshop about 3 years ago, said, "It took me 3 years to make a car out of a tree, which was my childhood dream. I carved a single tree trunk, then started on the engine assembly. I tried different engines. I couldn't fit every engine into the log. In the end, we fitted a suitable engine into this log and it worked. There is work to be done, but now we can drive it and drive around with the car."

Say said that some people wanted to buy the vehicle and that he turned down the offers, saying that "he could not sell his dream for money."

Say said that he had made the car for around 300 thousand liras and had received offers of over 1 million liras, and added, "I think it will be a nice gift that I will leave to my children and grandchildren. I want them to see their grandfathers make cars . My family also contributed a lot to this car. We made it from the family budget. Without their support, I could not have made this car."

NEXT DREAM IS TO BUILD A PLANE

Say stated that he loves his job and said that it is not important for him whether his works are sold or not.

Say emphasized that he does not like working with technological tools and cannot stomach it, and noted that he believes that wood products should be made by hand and that he uses adzes the most.

Say said that he felt sad when he saw tree trunks burning, and that when he looked at the trunks, he sometimes saw a table, sometimes a bird, instead of a tree.

Say stated that he plans to continue his profession until the end of his life and added that his new dream is to make a plane out of wood.
