A new era begins in restaurants: It will be mandatory at all tables

The Ministry of Trade reminded that the regulations regarding the price tags, tariffs and price lists of goods and services offered for retail sale are determined within the framework of the Consumer Protection Law No. 6502 and the Price Tag Regulation.
The statement emphasized that the primary purpose of the Regulation is to determine the form, content, and use of labels, tariffs, and price lists for products and services offered for retail sale, as well as the procedures and principles regarding discounted sales. It also emphasized the importance of these regulations for both protecting consumers' economic interests and ensuring accurate and complete information.
"With the arrangements included in the draft Regulation opened for comment, it will be mandatory for the seller to weigh the package weights of the products sold in the presence of the consumer.
Based on the principle of "Accuracy in Measurement and Weight," an Ahi tradition, the seller will weigh products offered for sale according to the consumer's request, and the tare weight, i.e., the reduction of packaging weight, will be clearly stated. This will ensure that consumers pay for the net amount of the products they purchase, thus protecting their economic interests.
Menus and price lists can also be displayed to consumers via QR codes on tables in businesses that offer food and beverage services.
In addition to the practice of presenting physical menu lists and price lists in front of the doors and on the desktops of establishments such as restaurants, cafes, patisseries and similar establishments that offer food and beverage services, which started on January 1, 2024, the way to access menus using QR codes on the desktop has now been made available, thus providing convenience for both consumers and businesses.
PRICE LISTS CAN BE TRANSFERRED TO THE MINISTRY OF TRADE'S SYSTEMBusinesses that offer food and beverage services, the criteria of which are determined by the Ministry of Commerce, will be able to transfer their price lists to the system determined by the Ministry of Commerce.
It is aimed to establish a system that will enable consumers to easily compare the prices of services offered by businesses such as restaurants, cafes and similar establishments by publishing their price lists on the internet.
For products like books and magazines, sellers are being offered the convenience of using electronic devices, in addition to price tags. For businesses selling books, magazines, and newspapers, the ability to use electronic devices, such as "see price," along with price tags, is being introduced, ensuring the industry adapts to evolving technology while also providing accurate and complete information to consumers.
The Ministry of Trade, operating with a producer- and consumer-focused approach, will continue to implement new regulations for informational and implementation purposes. After consulting with relevant institutions regarding the Price Label Regulation, the necessary final assessments will be made expeditiously, and the relevant Regulation will be submitted for official approval.
