Another call from DEM Co-Chair Bakırhan to the CHP

DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan made a statement before his party's Party Assembly meeting.
Bakırhan made another call to the CHP in his statement. "The public has very high expectations from the Republican People's Party (CHP), given its founding party identity and historical values, regarding a democratic solution to the Kurdish issue," Bakırhan said.
Bakirhan said:
At a time when historic moments are being experienced and darkness is being confirmed, if surrender declarations are being issued and images of operations are still being received; if even in the face of unrelated activity in Syria, there are those who think, "Oh, don't let the Kurds breathe!"; if, in these days when we are discussing solutions for language, culture, and identity, a woman listening to Kurdish music is being kicked with a baby in her womb; if a prosecutor is sending a message by placing a white Toros on her desk on the very day Mr. Erdoğan criticized the white Toros; if dissidents and elected officials are being silenced with the stick of the judiciary; if the will of the ballot box is being crushed; if artificial agendas and smear efforts targeting the Democratic People's Party (DEM) are being developed daily; if, instead of peace, the media outlets considered the mouthpieces of the government are igniting discord and corruption; if, when the Constitutional Court's decisions are implemented, the spokesmen of war and denial, who use headlines calling the Kurdish people "terrorists," who benefit from this, want to turn peoples against each other, let no one be offended. We will not tolerate these actions. We will raise our voices and our words, and continue to walk on the path we believe is right.
We say that the judiciary must descend from the white Taurus Mountains. The law must condemn hostility towards Kurdish. The sabotage of our native language must end. The political dictatorship must cease. Headlines that magnify peace, not war, must be published. Politics should be conducted with ideas, not slander. We are currently working to build peace. We have no intention of impressing anyone with our people or words. We have no such intention.
"SOCIALITY HAS VERY HIGH EXPECTATIONS FROM CHP"
"Türkiye's century-old structural problems and today's political crises are intertwined and feed each other. The way to break this vicious cycle is not to separate these two agendas, but to understand and see the connection between them," Bakırhan said, continuing:
I say this with sincerity and conviction: society has very high expectations from the Republican People's Party (CHP), especially regarding the democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue, given its founding party identity and historical values. This is because this issue is the most fundamental element of Türkiye's democratization and social peace. We believe that assuming this historic responsibility and participating in the solution effort is the best step for all of us and for the future of our country. This is the expectation of the entire society from the political institution and political parties. I hope that the political institution will also demonstrate this practice and working style.
"WHY SHOULD NOT THE PRESIDENT BE A KURD?"
During the question-and-answer portion of the press conference, Bakırhan was asked about MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's suggestion that "one of the two vice presidents should be Alevi and the other Kurdish."
Bakırhan responded, "Why shouldn't the President be a Kurd? We are candidates to govern," and continued:
"I don't know what the political equation and ground will be like in the coming period, but of course it is valuable and precious that all colors and differences in our country are represented in the administration."
