CHP 's Presidential Candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor (IMM) Ekrem İmamoğlu , who is detained in Silivri Prison, made a statement on the Presidential Candidate Office social media account.
Reacting to the recent detentions and arrests targeting CHP municipalities, İmamoğlu addressed the government and said, "You also know that your time is running out. No threat, no detention, no slander will save you. The ballot box will come. The government will change. This dirty system of yours will end." İmamoğlu noted the following in his statement:
"YOU BECAME AGGRESSIVE AS YOU GOT FEARED""The lawlessness you started in Istanbul has now turned into a regime crisis. First, you tried to deceive the people by saying "there is corruption". When that didn't work, you increased your oppression. You gave yourselves away.
You wanted to see the CHP in opposition forever. You were afraid of losing the election. You were willing to throw the country into fire in order not to get up from your seat that you were clinging to.
But you came across this great nation. You were helpless. You were afraid. The more you feared, the more aggressive you became. You arrested and detained more mayors.
So what do you expect? What will happen if you arrest everyone who objects? How far will you take that ballot box? The nation is aware that you are not shackling the mayors, but their own will. We are aware of this too. This struggle is not to defend a few cities or mayors, but to keep Türkiye in democracy. You want us to let go of this. We will not. Neither the CHP nor the noble children of this nation will ever give up on the democracy they have earned with great effort. They will fight those who want to eliminate the ballot box at all costs.
You know that your time is running out. No threat, no detention, no slander will save you. The ballot box will come. The government will change. This dirty system of yours will end."
