Airline first to launch direct flights from UK airport to beautiful city loved by Brits

British tourists will be able to fly directly from a major UK airport to Bangkok as a budget airline is set to launch a direct flight to the popular destination. Norse Atlantic Airways has announced an inaugural flight service between Manchester and Bangkok from November 26 this year.
At present, no airline offers a direct flight between Manchester and Thailand’s capital city. Earlier this month, the Norwegian airline unveiled a landmark new route, with round-trip fares starting at £259. Norse Atlantic Airways CEO Bjørn Tore Larsen said: "We don't just follow demand, we unlock it. This route has been waiting to happen, and we're proud to be the ones making it a reality. Manchester is a key gateway to the North of England, and Bangkok is a magnet for adventure, business, and culture. Connecting the two cities is a natural next step for Norse as we continue to disrupt and expand in the long-haul space."
According to Norse Atlantic, the new route targets what it considers the region’s most underserved long-haul market, with the airline positioning itself as a game-changer in budget-friendly international travel.
The airline has uncovered significant unmet demand on the Manchester–Bangkok route, with over 100,000 travellers making the journey each year via indirect connections.
An estimated 100,000 more opt for other UK airports due to the absence of a direct service from Manchester, revealing a market of more than 200,000 passengers who currently endure extended trips involving at least one stopover.
Manchester Airport managing director Chris Woodroofe welcomed the announcement: "Bangkok is one of the most exciting destinations on the planet and is rightly one of the most popular.
"Many people from the region travel there every year, but until now they have had to book connecting flights. This new route will make a huge difference by meaning people can get there directly from the UK's global gateway in the North."
He highlighted opportunities for inbound tourism, noting visitors could "experience our vibrant cities, enjoy our spectacular scenery, study in our elite universities and even watch our football clubs."
Flights will depart Manchester at 11.30pm, arriving in Bangkok at 6pm local time.
