D-Day LIVE: WW2 Veterans gather in Normandy on 81st anniversary to remember the landings

D-Day veterans will be amongst the thousands of people expected to gather on the beaches of Normandy today to remember the landings.
Today marks 81 years since allied forces landed on five beaches along the French coast in the largest amphibious invasion of its kind.
The success of the mission proved to be a turning point in the war, establishing an allied foothold in Nazi-occupied Europe, leading to Germany's surrender less than a year later.
A total of 4,414 Allied troops lost their lives on D-Day, with thousands more killed and wounded in the battle for Normandy.
Throughout the day, re-enactments, ceremonies and parades will take place with a handful of elderly veterans expected to attend.
