Electric scooter rider dead after crash in London's Huron Heights

A man is dead after a collision between a car and an e-scooter in the city's east end Wednesday afternoon, police say.
The incident happened at about 4:20 p.m. on residential Beckworth Avenue, off Sandford Street.
The driver of the car remained on the scene. The man operating the scooter was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.
Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area between 4:10 p.m. and 4:25 p.m. and may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam or other surveillance to contact them.
The number of e-scooter-related injuries treated at the children's and adult emergency rooms in London went from six in April, nine in May, and 11 in June, according to numbers provided by the London Health Sciences Centre, which had just started keeping track of monthly numbers in April.
A provincial pilot project is in place while officials determine if current rules are adequate for e-scooter use. They're allowed on streets of 50km/h or less, in bike lanes, and on multi-use pathways.
They're not allowed on sidewalks and are not allowed to reach speeds of more than 24km/h.
