M1 and M25 traffic LIVE: Chaos on busy UK motorway as police incident shuts road

Hertfordshire Police said on X: "The carriageways on the M1 (J6A) and M25 (J21A) have now been reopened following an earlier incident.
"Thank you to motorists who observed the closure."
National Highways said drivers could currently expect 'long delays' of around 30 minutes.
In response to being asked how long the roads would be closed the Hertfordshire Police X account replied at around 6am that "Unfortunately at this time we are unable to advise when the road closures will be lifted".
In a statement posted on X around 5.20am this morning, National Highways said: "The M1 is CLOSED northbound between J6 (Waterdale) and J6A (M25) due to a Hertforshire Police incident.
"Traffic has also been stopped on the M25 in both directions within J21 (near St Albans). Please plan ahead if travelling in the area this morning."
National Highways traffic cameras show large queues of lorries on the M25 close to the incident which has happened on one the busiest commuter routes surrounding London.
Road users travelling M1 northbound are advised to follow the hollow diamond diversion symbol on road signs:
Exit the M1 at J6, at the end of the M1 exit slip turn left on to the A405 'North Orbital Road' Continue travelling on the A405 until 'Park Street Roundabout' Take the 1st exit on to the A414 Rejoin the M1 at J8Road users travelling M25 anti-clockwise are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol on road signs:
Exit the M25 at J21A and take the first exit onto the A405 At "Leavesden Green" junction, take the second exit onto the A41 towards the M25. At "Hunton Bridge" roundabout, take the second exit to re-join the M25 at J19Road users travelling M25 clockwise are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol on road signs:
Exit the M25 at J20 and take the fourth exit onto the A41. At A41/A411 "Hunton Bridge" roundabout, take the first exit to continue on the A41. At A41/A405 "Levesden Green" junction, take the exit onto the A405 towards St Albans. Continue to re-join the M25 at J21A.A National Highways map shows traffic building and congestion on the M1 and M25 at present closse to the scene between St Albans and Watford.
Hertfordshire Police posted a statement on X this morning, it read: "We are currently dealing with an incident on the M1 at J6A, (Chiswell interchange) which is also affecting J21A of the M25.
"If you are planning to travel through either junction on your travels, we recommend that you seek an alternative route as the road will be closed."
