Meghan Markle is a well-known foodie, and one of her favourite snacks is not only particularly healthy but affordable, with a clever twist, too. The Duchess of Sussex has long spoken about her love of food, both during her career as an actress and after her departure from the Royal Family.

More recently, Meghan's passion was on full display as she released a whole series on Netflix focusing on hosting, in which she showed some of her favourite recipes to friends. But years before she even met Prince Harry, the Duchess would rely on one particular snack to keep her on track.

Meghan revealed that she would always carry this particular set with her at work or when she's at home - watermelon with cinnamon.

She said on the Today Show in 2012: "On set and at home, I try to always have a container of watermelon sprinkled with cinnamon because it elevates the flavour just a notch, and makes it feel special."

A food expert praised the weird combination and stressed how it "tricks the brain" to fight sugar cravings.

Renae Smith, a PR expert who is also a consultant and MasterChef contestant, told Hello! magazine: "While it might sound unusual at first, Meghan’s go-to snack of watermelon dusted with cinnamon actually makes sense from both a flavour and nutrition perspective.

"Watermelon is naturally sweet and hydrating, and it does have vitamin C and antioxidants."

Ms Smith spoke about the benefits of cinnamon, saying that it can aid in regulating blood sugar and may even have anti-inflammatory properties.

She explained: "What's really clever about cinnamon, too, is that cinnamon enhances the perception of sweetness without adding sugar.

"It works by subtly tricking the brain into experiencing a more intense flavour. Vanilla does the same, so it's not just a refreshing snack, it's a bit of a hack too."
