Met Office issues new weather warning with 42 areas affected – full list

The Met Office has issued a new yellow weather warning for rain. The warning, which comes just hours after another alert for rain covering parts of Wales, interests several areas across Wales and England. The warning is in place from 10pm today (28 August) until 12pm tomorrow (29 August). The weather forecaster says Brits should brace for heavy showers and longer spells of heavy rain, which may bring disruption to transport and infrastructure.
The Met Office added that “flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely”, and that flooding on roads could make journey times longer. Bus and train services will also “probably” be affected. Where heavy shows occur, 10-20 mm of rain in less than an hour is possible. Over a few hours, 50-70 mm of rain is expected where rain becomes more prolonged - this most likely near coasts. The forecaster predicts that showers may be accompanied by thunder, which is also more likely near coasts.
A yellow rain warning is also established in Wales which began at 7:56am, and is in place until 4pm today. The areas affected are Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, Neath Port Talbot, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Swansea.
Ahead of the warning, it is advised to check if your property could be at risk of flooding. If so, the Met Office recommends preparing a flood plan and an emergency flood kit.
For those who need to travel, check the road conditions ahead of driving, or bus and train time tables to avoid delays.
If your area is likely to experience power cuts due to the weather, the forecaster says to prepare in advance by gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
