In his first interview following Friday's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Donald Trump declined to disclose the "one big issue" on which he and Putin disagreed.

The meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska concluded without the two world leaders reaching a consensus to end the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Trump stated that he and Putin had an "understanding" and that they concurred on many points but disagreed on others, including what he referred to as a significant point.

Trump claimed "some great progress" was made during his bilateral meeting with the Russian president, stating "many points were agreed to," with only a "very few" remaining.

Immediately after the meeting, Trump sat down with Fox News' Sean Hannity and sidestepped questions about what he and Putin did not agree on, reports The Mirror US.

"You said there was one big issue you and Putin don't agree on. Are you prepared to go public with that?" Hannity asked Trump.

"No, I'd rather not. I guess somebody is gonna go public with it, they'll figure it out," Trump replied.

Prior to the summit, Trump had stated that he would know within the first two minutes whether he and Putin could reach an agreement to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

However, during the post-summit interview with Hannity, Trump didn't provide a direct response when questioned about the opening moments of the meeting.

Instead, Trump emphasised that he's always maintained a "great relationship" with Putin and suggested they would have collaborated if not for the U.S. investigation into Russian interference in Trump's 2016 election victory.

Trump also referenced multiple occasions during the interview when Putin had praised him.

Trump revealed Putin described the U.S. as "hot as a pistol."

The former U.S. president also expressed satisfaction at hearing Putin echo - as Trump himself frequently does - that the Russia-Ukraine conflict would never have commenced had the Republican, rather than Democrat Joe Biden, occupied the White House.

Overall, Trump awarded the summit, whose precise details remain undisclosed, "a 10."

He also appeared to place the burden of securing a ceasefire agreement squarely on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's shoulders, despite the Ukrainian leader being excluded from Friday's Alaskan summit.

"Now it's really up to President Zelensky to get it done," Trump informed Hannity.

Trump indicated he anticipates a meeting between Putin and Zelensky materialising, suggesting he may potentially participate alongside them.

He refused to elaborate on what agreements he and Putin had reached and what issues remained unresolved, reiterating that "it's not a done deal at all."

Putin has previously indicated he's not opposed to meeting Zelensky but insisted that "certain conditions" must first be satisfied. The Kremlin has maintained the two leaders should only convene when a peace agreement stands ready for signature.
