High street discount chain to shut 250 stores for an entire day next week – check if yours is affected

SHUTTERS DOWN
The chain is known for its arts, crafts, stationary, toys, games and books range
SHOPPERS have been warned a high street discount chain will shut 250 of its stores for an entire day next week.
This retailer has a fantastic range of Easter gifts, crafts, books, and decorations, but you'll want to get there quick before they close.
The Works is a discount chain that sells arts and crafts, stationary, toys, games and books.
It recently announced that half of its stores will close for Easter Sunday.
For those that remain open, Bank Holiday hours will apply.
Customers have been advised to check specific opening times using the store locator tool on The Works' website.
A spokesperson for The Works said: “The vast majority of our stores will remain open over Easter weekend, including on Good Friday and Easter Monday, where customers can continue to shop for their favourite products at affordable prices.
"Around half of our stores will close on Easter Sunday and for those that remain open, typical Bank Holiday hours of 10am – 4pm will apply unless otherwise stated by shopping centres.
"We advise customers to check specific opening times using the store locator tool on our website which will be updated with the individual opening hours of each store nearer the time.”
By law, shops over 280 square metres must close on Easter Sunday.
The same rule stands for Christmas Day.
On normal Sundays they can open but only for six consecutive hours between 10am and 6pm.
Stores under 280 square metres are considered small shops.
They can open any day or hour in England and Wales.
Meanwhile in Scotland, no trading time restrictions apply.
There are some large shops that are exempt from Sunday trading restrictions.
Some of them include airports, train stations, farms, and service stations.
If a large shop opens when it shouldn't it can be fined.
It comes after Wickes announced it will close all 221 of its stores in England and Wales next Sunday.
However, the DIY chain will open as usual on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
Meanwhile its Scottish branches will open from 7am to 8pm on Easter Sunday but otherwise operate normally.
