Intel's Big Changes as New Boss Reorganizes Leadership Team

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan is flattening his leadership team, appointing a new artificial intelligence chief and taking key chip groups under his wing, Reuters has learned.
Lip-Bu Tan also promoted network chip chief Sachin Katti to chief technology officer and head of artificial intelligence, Reuters reported.
The management shakeup is the first major move by Lip-Bu Tan , who took over the top job at the Silicon Valley chipmaker last month. Intel’s Data Center and AI Chip group, as well as its PC Chip group, will report directly to him , according to Reuters.
Previously overseen by Michelle Johnston Holthaus, who remains Intel's general manager of products, her work will expand into new areas, Reuters reports.
“I want to roll up my sleeves with the engineering and product teams so I can learn what is needed to strengthen our solutions,” Tan wrote.
Tan's shake-up comes after an extended period of turmoil at Intel .
In mid-April, Intel said it had agreed to sell a 51% stake in Altera's programmable integrated circuit business , which will be acquired by Silver Lake for $4.46 billion.
The deal values Altera at $8.75 billion, a significant drop from the nearly $17 billion Intel paid in 2015.
