It was only a week ago that the US announced a partial halt to arms deliveries to Ukraine.

US President Donald Trump intends to continue supplying Ukraine with weapons despite a recently announced partial US halt to arms deliveries. Asked by a journalist whether he intended to send more weapons to Ukraine, the Republican said: "We will send more weapons. We have to, they have to be able to defend themselves. They will be hit very hard." He emphasized that these weapons should primarily be defensive weapons.

Just last Tuesday, it was announced that the US had halted deliveries of some previously promised weapons – including anti-aircraft missiles – to Ukraine. The US Department of Defense stated that the US was in the process of reviewing its own capabilities – and had also halted aid to other countries.

Trump again called for a swift end to the war. He said war is a terrible thing. He hates it when people are killed, as happened in Ukraine and Russia. He is not at all happy with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump emphasized: "I end wars."

Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for more than three years. Moscow's military has been trying for weeks to overwhelm its neighboring country's air defenses.

After Trump talks: Zelenskyy wants to change ambassador

Meanwhile, according to a media report, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is apparently accommodating Trump on a key personnel decision. Citing two people familiar with the matter, the Financial Times reported that the two leaders agreed in a telephone call to replace Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova. Their teams are conducting further consultations on potential candidates, which should be reviewed by both sides.

The US portal Bloomberg also reported, citing a person familiar with the matter, that the two presidents had discussed the ambassador's replacement in a telephone call on Friday.

Markarova, who has served as ambassador to Washington since 2021, has been accused by some Republicans of being too close to the Democrats. Her dismissal may be an attempt by Zelensky to appease Trump at a sensitive time for Ukraine.

Major cabinet reshuffle planned

Next week, Zelenskyy plans to announce Markarova's appointment as part of a major cabinet reshuffle, the newspaper reported, citing sources. Zelenskyy has already reshuffled his cabinet several times since the start of the war.

A senior Ukrainian official told the newspaper that Zelenskyy wants to appoint a "good negotiator" as ambassador who is "understandable to both the White House and Congress." Candidates for the successor include Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov, according to the report.

Ex-diplomat: Reshuffle to curb discontent

Former EU diplomat in Kyiv, Balazs Jarabik, told the newspaper that the personnel changes were a familiar response to growing political, economic, and social pressure. "The reshuffle does not indicate a change in strategic direction, but rather appears to be aimed at containing discontent, instilling a sense of renewal, and maintaining control amid growing pressure on multiple fronts."

Ukraine plans to expand drone production

Zelenskyy announced an expansion of drone production together with allies, also for the post-war period. "We are also working with our partners to ensure that production in their countries is as efficient as possible – for our common defense now and for the post-war period – for our partners' arsenals," the head of state said in his video message.

The cooperation is taking place with all countries that can help with investments, components, and production facilities. "Step by step," funding gaps for the production of drones and interceptor drones are being closed. Just last week, Kyiv signed new agreements on drone production in Denmark.

Zelensky announced a meeting of the so-called "Coalition of the Willing," led by Great Britain and France, for the reconstruction conference planned for Thursday and Friday in Rome. The main topic will continue to be air defense, particularly defense against drone attacks. "Everyone in the world can see how dependent Russia is on the use of Shahed drones. They have very few options left to prolong the war, and Russian-Iranian drones are one of them," Zelensky said.
