Norway | Marius Borg Høiby: The Sinister Criminal Prince
It's often said that you can't choose your relatives. This also applies to the Norwegian royal family. There's a falling out in the patchwork family of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Crown Prince Haakon . The reason for this is their son, Marius Borg Høiby, whom Mette-Marit introduced into the relationship. Tabloid media are calling him the royal family's scandalous son.
A photo shows the 28-year-old shirtless, unusually for a royal, with extensive tattoos. He poses with a gun in his hand and bundles of banknotes in his waistband. He appears to lead such a lifestyle outside of the royal family—a double life, so to speak.
Now the Oslo Public Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against him. The allegations are serious: they involve the rape of four women, a series of violent crimes, trespassing, property damage, and traffic violations. He is also alleged to have filmed the genitals of several women without their knowledge or consent. Marius Borg Høiby faces a total of 32 charges. His trial is expected to begin in mid-January 2026.
Marius Borg Høiby had already admitted some of the charges. He stated that he was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine and that he suffered from mental health problems. If found guilty, he faces a prison sentence of ten years.
The royal family has now responded to the allegations: In August, Marius Borg Høiby was forced to surrender his diplomatic passport, which he had held since childhood. He apparently fell out of favor within the royal family even before his conviction.
