A man stabs his wife to death and flees, unsuccessfully attempting suicide in Almería.

A man stabs his wife to death and flees, unsuccessfully attempting suicide in Almería.

A 62-year-old woman died this Friday afternoon in a home in the city of Almería , the victim of a stabbing. According to sources close to the investigation, this is believed to be a case of domestic violence. Her husband, of a similar age, allegedly stabbed her in the forearm with a knife and, hypothetically, inflicted two fatal cuts on her neck.

According to the Andalusian unified emergency service 112 , at around 8:10 p.m. this Friday, several alert calls were received reporting a woman screaming that another woman had been attacked in a home on Travesía de San Luis in the capital of Almería, and that blood could be seen on the door. Police and 061 units were mobilized in response to these events, and the National Police confirmed the death of a woman from a stabbing.

According to initial reports, the woman screaming at the gruesome scene was an octogenarian, the mother of the victim who had found her own daughter dead next to a trail of blood in the home she shared with her son-in-law. Police and paramedics were only able to cordon off the bloody scene where the crime had occurred, as the woman was already dead.

The National Police have confirmed that the victim's body bears wounds from the stab wounds she received this Friday afternoon from her husband. The man fled the scene to Pechina, a nearby town less than 15 kilometers from the capital, and tried to drive his car off a cliff.

National Police officers located him in a remote, urban area, in a ravine in the town of Pechinera, just as he attempted to take his own life by driving his vehicle off the cliff. As of late Friday, the alleged perpetrator of the domestic violence crime remained in police custody at the Torrecárdenas University Hospital in Almería.

For the time being, the Ministry of Equality, through the Spanish Government Delegation against Gender Violence, has not confirmed the sexist nature of the crime. If confirmed, as initial indications suggest, it would be the first death in Almería so far this year and the sixth in Andalusia.
