Jorge Roig Jr., passion and legacy for acting in the world of dubbing

Is a passion for acting inherited or acquired? This is the question that opened the conversation El Siglo de Torreón had with the great voice actor Jorge Roig Jr.
With nearly 50 years of experience in the acting and dubbing world, Jorge Roig Jr. has brought to life countless memorable characters, lending his voice and charisma, including Sonic (Sonic the Hedgehog), Quasimodo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), Oliver Atom (Captain Marvel), and Carlos Finster (Rugrats).
During the conversation that this publishing house had with actor Roig Jr., he told us that he began getting involved in acting at a very young age, as he is the son of two great figures in the world of dubbing: Jorge Roig and Rocío Garcel, who have voiced characters such as Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid and Bulma in Dragon Ball.
What began as a game while his mother worked in dubbing studios became a turning point for Roig Jr. in his life, leading him to become involved in the world of acting, learning from other actors and directors.
“I used to go to the studios with my mom. While she was working, I would play director's assistant and watch the actors arrive.”
Between games, one day her first opportunity to participate in a professional job arrived, due to the absence of an actress at her request.
"I think it was Chilindrina who didn't come in because she was busy with other things. Then Mr. Narciso Busquets said to me: 'Would you like to work?' They put me at the lectern and said: 'Let's see, when I touch your shoulder, you're going to say this, this kid's lines, and that's it.'"
Because Jorge was familiar with acting, he had no major problems performing the task, and from then on, his career took a definite course.
Among the many characters that Jorge Roig Jr. has played, he highlighted Fox Mulder in the series The X-Files, as he came to identify with him so much that he even felt it was quite natural to lend him his voice.
“I got along so well with the character that we seemed one and the same.”
Another character he fondly remembered and whose role stands out for what he represents is Quasimodo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, whose performance was widely applauded even by Disney executives.
“I put my life, my heart… everything into that character. Just like my parents taught me.”
This is how Jorge has been able to project feelings, intensity and talent through his voice, helping in the positioning of memorable characters that resonate with the audience to this day.
