Man uses fake profile to harass minor... and is sentenced to 3 years in prison

The Ecuadorian court sentenced Wilson YA to three years in prison after finding him guilty of engaging in sexual contact with minors under 18 years of age using electronic means , the Attorney General's Office announced Thursday.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine equivalent to ten basic unified salaries (USD 4,700) and ordered full reparation of USD 2,000 for the benefit of the victim, a thirteen-year-old girl.

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the events occurred in September 2024. At the time, the defendant, who was 34 years old, created a fake Facebook account to communicate with the minor. Through Messenger messages, Wilson Jesús WA managed to gain the young woman's trust and then coerced and threatened her into sending him sexually explicit images and videos .

According to the prosecutor's report, the attacker extorted the victim , demanding sexual encounters under the threat of posting the intimate material on social platforms and adult sites.

On October 18, 2024 , Wilson Jesús YA attempted to meet with the minor near the Riobamba Bus Terminal in Chimborazo province. However, the young woman's parents realized this individual's intentions and arrived at the scene with the help of the National Police .

Upon arriving at the scene, the individual asked the young woman to get into his car. After driving a few blocks, upon seeing the police, he attempted to flee. However, he was caught and detained by officers on adjacent streets.

At trial, the prosecution presented a wealth of expert evidence and witnesses: computer forensic analysis reports, audio and video appraisals, recordings of social media chats , as well as prior testimony from the victim , her mother, and the arresting officers.

Psychological assessments and studies of the social environment were integrated, along with an examination of the location where the attempted meeting took place.
