Goodbye to paperwork: the national government digitizes the process for dismantling cars.

Goodbye to paperwork: the national government digitizes the process for dismantling cars.

In line with its state modernization plan, thenational government officially announced this Thursday the digitalization of the vehicle deregistration and dismantling process . Through Decree 428/2025 , published in the Official Gazette , key changes were introduced to Law 25.761 , with the aim of simplifying, streamlining, and reducing the costs of a process that, until now, required a high bureaucratic burden.

The main new feature is the implementation of a digital platform managed by the National Directorate of Motor Vehicle Registries , where interested parties must upload the corresponding documentation and color photographs of the vehicle to be dismantled.

Currently, the procedure is performed in person and requires the submission of paper documentation and printed photos , a format that will remain in effect only until the new online system is fully enabled.

In addition to streamlining the process, the measure also reduces the amount of mandatory information required for the entry and exit of vehicles and auto parts. From now on, only the make, model, part number, and decommissioning certificate will be required. Parts unsuitable for recycling must be destroyed , in accordance with the new regulations.

Until this decree, data considered unnecessary by the Executive were required, such as the type of fuel , the date and country of manufacture , and the final destination of each auto part , which, according to the official text, "hindered the regular operation" of those who make up the Single Registry of Dismantling Yards .

The government justified these changes by stating that "the physical requirements have become obsolete" in the face of current technological advances. It also questioned the multitude of requirements for being "redundant or duplicated," which generated "unnecessary operational burdens" without improving state oversight.

"The traceability and legality of the process are not guaranteed with endless forms, but with effective digital tools," emphasizes the decree, which is part of the administrative simplification plan promoted by President Javier Milei .

With this initiative, the ruling party seeks to once again demonstrate its commitment to more agile, transparent, and efficient management , especially targeting sectors such as the automotive industry, where irregularity and the informal market continue to pose a challenge for authorities.
