If you haven't filed your tax return yet, be careful: the deadline is today and these are the fines for not filing.

As June draws to a close and the first week of summer is over, for many, the tax return season is behind them.
However, the Tax Agency has a filing period of approximately three months, allowing all taxpayers to comply with their tax obligations for the 2024 fiscal year.
Specifically, the Treasury Department launched the campaign on April 2 for online filing, on May 6 for those who requested the Tax Agency prepare their tax return by phone, and on June 2 for those who preferred to file their tax return in person at the designated offices.
For those wishing to complete the process by phone or in person , an appointment must have been made online or by calling one of the telephone numbers provided by the Tax Agency, although this time is no longer available.
But time is running out, and if you haven't yet settled your tax returns, you should act quickly because today, Monday, June 30th, is the last day to file your tax return . If you don't do so within the specified deadline, you could face various consequences . We explain them below.
Failure to file personal income tax returns within the deadline established by the Tax Agency can result in penalties that vary depending on several factors:
- If the declaration is due:
Without prior notice from the Treasury: If you file your tax return late but before the Treasury requests it, a 1% surcharge plus an additional 1% for each full month of delay applies. If you are more than 12 months late, the surcharge increases to a fixed 15% plus any late payment interest accrued from that year onwards.
· At the request of the Treasury: If the Treasury detects that you haven't paid and requires you to file your tax return, the fine can range from 50% to 150% of the total outstanding debt , depending on the severity and whether there are repeat offenses. These penalties may be reduced if the fine is accepted or if payment is made within the voluntary period indicated.
- If the statement results in a return or zero:
· Without prior notice: If the taxpayer himself realizes the situation and sends it as soon as he realizes it, the penalty is 100 euros .
· Upon request from the Treasury: If the Tax Agency detects the violation and notifies you, the fine amounts to 200 euros.
It should be added that the Tax Agency has a period of four years to claim outstanding amounts for unfiled or late-filed returns.
