Inflation accelerates to 2.9% in September

Inflation stood at 2.9% in September, two-tenths of a percentage point higher than the August figure. At the press conference following the European Central Bank's (ECB) latest monetary policy meeting, when the institution decided not to change rates for the second consecutive time, its president was very clear in confirming that "the disinflationary process is over." This does not mean that the indicator will rebound dramatically or that the European supervisor foresees a sudden tightening of monetary policy—the ECB focuses all its efforts on predictability—but it does mean, as Lagarde explained, that the cycle of price moderation will not continue.
