Pedro Sánchez will appear today after the PSOE meeting in Ferraz to announce changes.

Pedro Sánchez will appear today after the PSOE meeting in Ferraz to announce changes.

PSOE leader and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will appear this Monday at Ferraz following the PSOE Federal Executive Committee, which is meeting for the first time today since the resignation of its Organization Secretary, Santos Cerdán, over the Koldo case.

Socialist Deputy General Secretary María Jesús Montero confirmed today in an interview with RNE that the PSOE will enter into the corresponding "reorganization process" to fill the position of Secretary of Organization of the party once Santos Cerdán has stepped down. Furthermore, she understands, he will submit his deputy's certificate "in the next few hours."

"The PSOE secretary general will be responsible for reporting on these issues and any other matters he wishes to raise," Montoro said, insisting that the government's intention is to continue the legislature without calling general elections early .

The Executive is "working" to regain the public's "trust," he asserts, and defends Sánchez's Cabinet's "exemplary behavior," having asked Cerdán to resign from all his posts solely based on evidence provided by the Civil Guard.

The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres , also announced that the Prime Minister will appear at Ferraz and make "important announcements about the party's reshuffle" after the executive committee meeting.

"Well, he's already announced that he'll appear after the Federal Executive Committee concludes. It's not normal for the federal secretary to do so. Therefore, he'll make important announcements regarding the reshuffle and also internal and other matters ," Torres stated in an interview on Televisión Canaria.

In addition to ruling out early elections in response to the UCO report on Cerdán, Montero said on RNE that "none" of the investiture partners have requested a vote of confidence over the situation, pointing out that there is a "constitutional mechanism" to remove the president from office: a vote of no confidence . In any case, he indicated that Sánchez will meet with all political groups.

Sánchez held a press conference last Thursday following Santos Cerdán's resignation, in which he apologized to the Spanish people and announced an external audit to certify that there was no illegal financing of the party, as well as a restructuring of the PSOE's Federal Executive Committee.

Sources from Moncloa have told Europa Press that Sánchez will hold a round of in-person meetings with the PSOE's various parliamentary partners to learn firsthand whether he continues to have their support following the resignation of Cerdán, who has been accused by the Civil Guard's UCO of allegedly receiving bribes for illegal contract awards.

The Presidency already began contacting the political forces that supported the investiture yesterday. Sumar has called for a "reset" of the legislature, and Junts has requested a meeting directly with Sánchez to address the situation, as Cerdán was managing the PSOE's negotiations with Carles Puigdemont's party.

Last Thursday, Sánchez appeared at Ferraz to explain the accusations against his number three. He announced an external audit to review the party's accounts and changes to the Federal Executive Committee that would take effect at the Federal Committee meeting on July 5.

He ruled out a government crisis or bringing forward general elections, and reiterated that his intention remains to end the term when it should be, in 2027.

However, parliamentary allies continue to call for further measures, and several options remain on the table, including calling a vote of no confidence in the Congress of Deputies.

In this series of meetings, Sánchez could test the support of Sumar, ERC, Junts, PNV, Bildu, Podemos, and Coalición Canaria and learn their hypothetical demands for supporting him in a decisive vote for his future.

Santos Cerdán informs the Supreme Court

Meanwhile, Santos Cerdán has sent a letter today to the Supreme Court informing it that he will resign as a member of Congress this Monday, and according to the letter, he will no longer be a member of parliament today, June 16th, according to the letter submitted by his lawyer, Gonzalo Martínez-Fresneda, to Judge Leopoldo Puente in response to a request he made last Friday.

In this document, to which Efe and Europa Press have had access, the investigating judge asked Cerdán to clarify whether he would indeed resign as a deputy and whether he would do so before June 25, when he is scheduled to testify voluntarily, as part of the investigation into the alleged scheme to collect commissions in exchange for public works for former Transport Minister José Luis Ábalos and his former advisor Koldo García.
