PRD Edomex raises its voice: they demand protection for migrants in the US

The PRD in the State of Mexico is demanding that the state and federal governments implement urgent legal and humanitarian aid for Mexican migrants in the United States.
The Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) in the State of Mexico has issued a strong call to state and federal authorities, demanding concrete and urgent action for the legal and humanitarian defense of Mexican migrants facing tougher U.S. policies.
Toluca, State of Mexico.- Faced with growing uncertainty and the tightening of immigration policies in the United States, the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) in the State of Mexico has formally demanded that the governments of Delfina Gómez and Claudia Sheinbaum establish a clear defense strategy for their fellow citizens.
The party's state leadership described migration as "the failure of social policies" in Mexico, arguing that Mexicans are not leaving their land by choice, but rather due to a pressing economic and security need that they cannot find in their places of origin.
The Demand: Legal and Humanitarian Aid
The PRD's secretary general in the state, Agustín Uribe, outlined the party's specific demands, which focus on two main axes:
* Robust Legal Defense:
* Establish representative offices and legal counsel in key consulates to serve Mexican migrants.
* Allocate a specific budget for the hiring of immigration lawyers in the United States.
* Create an emergency fund to cover bail and other legal expenses for nationals facing deportation.
* Humanitarian and Social Support:
* Strengthen family reunification programs, such as the one already in place for older adults, but expand them.
* Create economic and social reintegration programs for deported migrants, ensuring that they are not left destitute upon their return.
* Establish a permanent information campaign on the rights of migrants, regardless of their legal status.
"We must recognize that this migration problem is a failure of social policies because migrants don't leave by choice but out of necessity." – Agustín Uribe, Secretary General of the PRD in Edomex.
A Context of Hardening in the U.S.
The PRD's demand takes on particular relevance in the current context. The US administration has intensified detention and deportation operations, with agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducting raids in key sectors such as agriculture and hospitality.
Furthermore, recent tensions and protests in cities like Los Angeles have highlighted the vulnerability of the migrant community. Mexican consulates, while offering assistance, are often overwhelmed by demand and the complexity of cases.
The PRD argues that current consular efforts are not enough; a proactive and well-funded state policy is needed that recognizes the value of remittances sent by migrants and rewards them with real protection in times of greatest need.
The call has been made. The ball is in the court of the state and federal governments to determine whether defending migrants is a real priority or just rhetoric.
