EA scraps The Sims 5: prioritize your investment in The Sims 4

For millions of players around the world, The Sims 4 isn't just a game: it's a second life. After a decade of building custom homes, stories, and worlds, many dreamed of a new generation of The Sims 5. But that dream, for now, will have to wait.
Laura Miele, president of EA Entertainment, has been clear: launching a new installment from scratch would be, in her words, "disrespectful" to the community. The emotional and financial commitment from players has been monumental. More than 85 DLCs have been released since 2014, and those who have faithfully followed the title's development have invested more than 1,000 euros in additional content.
EA doesn't want to wipe out years of dedication and digital purchases in one fell swoop. Restarting the series would mean losing all the progress, houses, items, and expansions players have accumulated.
"What I wouldn't want is for you to have to start from scratch," Miele explained in an interview with Variety . That's why the focus is now on something more ambitious: The Sims Universe .
This new concept represents a transformation of the franchise without erasing the legacy. It will be a unified platform that will include:
- Multiplayer modes
- Mobile integration
- Progressive graphical improvements
- Updated base technology
- Compatibility with existing content
Instead of resetting, EA proposes evolving alongside the community, offering new tools without abandoning the past.
Not all players are enthusiastic about this decision. Some feel that The Sims 4 is already overcrowded with content, which complicates the gameplay experience and causes frequent technical errors.
Furthermore, the lack of a completely new version has caused some frustration for those hoping for more significant technological advancements. This has led some fans to explore emerging alternatives , such as InZoi , the ultra-realistic simulator developed by Krafton , which is still in Early Access.
EA's decision may seem conservative, but it has a clear objective: to take care of its most loyal community. The Sims 4 will continue to receive expansions, patches, and updates designed to sustain a universe that continues to grow. Thus, the studio is betting on a sustainable evolution, where each story created by players remains relevant. Instead of a clean slate, the narrative continues . And perhaps that's more valuable than a simple "Sims 5."
