The Fourth UN Development Conference is holding its penultimate day this Wednesday in Seville, hosting, among other initiatives, a panel on health financing with the collaboration of Planeta Futuro, the global development section of El País. The event will examine how cuts in development aid are burdening the healthcare systems of many countries and the need to create "sustainable national health systems." Abrupt funding cuts, such as the dismantling of USAID, have led to the interruption of vital treatments for diseases such as HIV. Participants will include Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director of the World Health Organization; Peter Sands, executive director of Global Funda; Sonia Nishtar of GAVI; the Spanish ministers of Health, Mónica García; and José Manuel Albares, foreign affairs; Nadia Calviño, president of the European Investment Bank; and Quique Bassats, general manager of IS Global.
