While walking towards Lake Labarre, a misstep sent her down a steep slope, before she crossed a rocky ledge and fell around thirty meters into the void.

The GR 54, a difficult routeThis tragic accident is unfortunately not an isolated case: the summer season sees numerous incidents each year in the Alpine massifs, with an average of more than a hundred hiking-related deaths in France each year. Isère is particularly affected during the month of August, specifies Le Dauphiné Libéré.
The main causes include slipping on steep or unstable paths, fatigue and sometimes the lack of network coverage to quickly alert emergency services.
The GR 54, a route known for its difficult technical passages and steep gradients, requires increased vigilance and suitable equipment.
The authorities remind us of the importance of preparing for your outing, checking the weather forecast and never underestimating the dangers of high mountains, even in summer.
An investigation has been opened to establish the precise circumstances of the accident.
