A young man was killed Monday by " several shots " fired by two or three unknown assailants while he was in his vehicle in Saint-Christol-lez-Alès (Gard) with his partner, who was not injured, the Alès public prosecutor told AFP. The attackers " were apparently at least two, perhaps three " and " managed to escape, " added prosecutor Abdelkrim Grini, reached by telephone. " The partner was not injured, she is in shock and has been taken to the hospital ," the magistrate also explained.

The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. in this town of 7,000 inhabitants, near Alès. The victim of the shooting was 23 years old, a source close to the investigation told AFP. " The victim was in his vehicle and another vehicle stopped nearby and opened fire. This was not a shooting with an exchange of gunfire," the source explained.
