The Insoumis are increasing the pressure and the stakes in Lyon

La France Insoumise (France Insoumise) is casting doubt on its intentions for the municipal elections. Lyon MP Anaïs Belouassa has not ruled out a standalone candidacy in the first round, something the Greens would gladly do without.
La France Insoumise continues to blow hot and cold on its potential Green partners for the municipal elections in Lyon. The party's national coordinator, Manuel Bompard, assures that his Lyon activists are preparing to present an independent list in the first round. At the same time, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the party's longtime leader, is proposing a non-aggression pact to the Greens in cities run by the Greens in exchange for support in the Insoumis offensive against Socialist strongholds. “They're keeping both irons in the fire. They don't want to do what they did in 2020 and miss out on the municipal elections. They supported citizens' groups but got few elected officials and therefore few senators. This time, they want to establish themselves locally, either by going there or by creating a balance of power to secure the most places on the lists. But I don't think Lyon is really a target for them,” says Green Senator Thomas Dossus, who will be one of his party's negotiators.
